Free training material & self-study guide

Below are links to much of the study and training material we offer on this website, COST FREE. The Conflict Resolution Network presents a 12 skills approach. If you are dealing with a problem in your life right now, you might want to run that problem through our list of skills. You may well find a useful next step towards resolution or better management of the issue.

There’s lots of material here and of course it takes time and patience to work through it,  but we hope you will find it worthwhile. You can do this alone or form a study group with friends or colleagues. We encourage you to print out relevant training material and share it with others.

The headings below are links. Click on these to access our material. You can also access them through the drop down menu “Free Resources” under the Header at the top of the page.

Start with these three shorter pieces:

1. 12 SKILLS SUMMARY

2. FIGHTING FAIR A4 POSTER

3. RESOLVE THE CONFLICT GUIDE

If possible, spend a few days thinking and talking about the above material.

Then move onto the following more in-depth training:

4. CR KIT

About 20 pages. If studying alone, spend at least the next twelve days getting into this material, one skill at a time.

5. CR TRAINERS MANUAL

This CR Trainers Manual is directed to trainers and facilitators and includes training materials, interactive questions and classroom handouts. We encourage you to use sections of it to prepare for your face to face contact with groups. Click the Menu item for Free Resources and see the CR Trainers Manual link to over 500 pages of rigorous preparation for helping yourself and others to a new way of life, in work-place strategies and social contact.

If you need a break from this in-depth study, read from:

6. GENDER LINKED VALUES AND CONFLICT

20 page summary of the book The Gentle Revolution by Helena Cornelius, Director of The Conflict Resolution Network. It will help you wherever a clash of values is present – and especially when that clash is between more masculine vs more feminine relating styles.

7. CONFLICT-RESOLVING GAME

Excellent to test your skills. It’s best if you can involve a few players.

8. DIALOGUE AND DEBATE

This is great for exploring with others.

9. POSTERS AND HANDOUTS

Downloadable A4 and A5 posters and handouts on conflict resolution skills for your noticeboard or classroom.

10. TRAINING MANUAL FOR CHILDREN

We can work it out by Clare Heaton & Maureen Lynch is a manual for teachers to train children in conflict resolution skills. It is based on Conflict Resolution Network’s 12 skills approach. It contains a wide variety of lesson plans suitable for children aged between approximately 7 and 14 years. There’s also a sample brief lesson plan on helping children stand up to bullying and cyberbullying.
We are most grateful to the authors for making this 419 page manual available as a free download from CRN’s website.

11. HANDLING ANGER IN THE MEDIATION PROCESS

The above link will take you to a chapter on anger management taken (with permission of course!) from the book: Is Everyone at the Table: 18 Life Lessons in Problem Solving by Ernest G. Tannis, a mediation lawyer. It encourages us to find our own intuitively appropriate response to the extraordinary challenges that people in crisis can bring to the negotiating table.
